Maternity Leave - Virtual Workshop Overview

Welcome to our Maternity Leave Workshop! This 2-hour workshop on Zoom is designed to help new and expectant mothers secure all their benefits and ensure a smooth transition during this important time. Whether you’re preparing for your first maternity leave or planning for a future one, this workshop will guide you through everything you need to know.

What We’ll Cover:

  1. Benefits (Paid and Unpaid):
We’ll start by reviewing the different types of maternity leave benefits available, including paid and unpaid options like California State Disability Insurance (SDI), Paid Family Leave (PFL), FMLA, CFRA, and employer-specific benefits.

  2. Combining State, Federal, and Employer Benefits:
Learn how to combine state, federal, and employer benefits to maximize your time off and pay. We’ll explain how these programs work together and how to make the most of them.

  3. How and When to File Claims:
Timing is essential! We’ll guide you on when to file your claims, what documents you’ll need, and how to ensure your claims are submitted correctly to avoid delays.

  4. Eligibility Requirements:
Not everyone qualifies for every benefit. We’ll go over the eligibility criteria for different types of leave and help you understand what’s required to receive benefits.

  5. Calculating Your Benefit Amount:
We’ll show you how to calculate your benefit amount so you know where you stand financially during your maternity leave.

  6. Duration of Benefits:
We’ll discuss how long each type of leave lasts and what to expect regarding job protection. You’ll learn about the duration of SDI, PFL, and FMLA/CFRA, and how to plan your leave accordingly.

  7. Navigating Extensions:
If you need to extend your leave, we’ll explain how to apply for extensions, what documentation may be needed, and how this impacts your benefits.

  8. Communicating with Your Employer:
Effective communication with your employer is key. We’ll provide tips on how to notify your employer, maintain compliance with policies, and stay connected throughout your leave.

What You’ll Gain:
By the end of this workshop, you’ll understand how to navigate the maternity leave process, file claims correctly, and communicate with your employer. You’ll also know how to calculate your benefits and manage your leave for the best outcome.

Join us to feel confident and prepared as you plan for your maternity leave!
