Birthing Naturally: Partner Supported Childbirth
What you will learn
This course dedicates time for parents to mentally physically and emotionally prepare for the birth of their baby with a light-hearted and caring approach. Coursework will include a Birthing Naturally study guide, access to birthing videos and other helpful resources. Students will receive instruction on preparedness, proper exercise and nutrition, anatomy and physiology of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd stage of labor and postpartum preparation including infant care, supplies and breastfeeding in the immediate postpartum. They will learn how to develop an evidence-based approach while objectively discussing the effects, benefits, risks and alternatives of interventions, medications, and caesarean sections with consideration to the birther and child in order to create their birthing preferences (aka “birth plan”) as a family. Birthing partners will receive specific guidance on how to actively support the expectant person during pregnancy, labor, birth and the postpartum period. Each class will conclude by practicing a new comfort technique with supervision and hands-on support from the instructor.
Class size is limited to 8 couples so that students receive the personal attention needed when preparing for their upcoming birth. We recommend scheduling this class to end by the 35th-37th week of gestation. Advance registration is required. Please feel free to contact us at any time if you have any additional questions or concerns.
